Those words I heard last night
They caught up to me
Bawling my eyes out
In a crowded cafe on Front Street
Woodcut of a balding monk
Kneeling before a barebreasted queen

Subtle forces mark their trails
Smoothing the stone they tend
Cousin sentry branches out
Eyeless, the witness stands her post
All the universe displayed
Mundane details catch the light
In the eyes of the ghost
And we lay on this light skin of Earth
While miles below, the great heart churns
And we stare out transfixed by the void
Our womb and grave, at once now joined
And I cry with the heart of a boy
But the joy
